Lynwood Veterinary Group today employs over 50 people. The Wimborne, Bournemouth and Wareham practices are accredited by the RCVS as small animal general practices and are also training practices for veterinary nurses. All out of hours work is provided by a dedicated emergency service.
We are dedicated to the care and welfare of animals throughout their lives Our out of hours emergency cover is provided by the VetsNow emergency clinic in Bournemouth based on Castle Lane West. Through this service our clients have access to a dedicated intensive care centre that is fully staffed all through the night and at weekends and bank holidays.
We believe this offers our clients the highest standards of emergency care where your pet will be closely monitored by specially trained vets and nurses.
The Lynwood Veterinary Group was established in Wimborne in 1936 by John Birrell. Find out more about the history of the practice on The Lynwood Story page. As companion animals became a more important part of our work a new Veterinary Hospital was set up in Bournemouth in the 1960s. Mixed practice branches were also begun in Wareham and Swanage at this time.
Gradually, there has been a shift from large animal work, to the entirely small animal practices you see today. A further branch was opened in Verwood in 2002. In 1996 the Lynwood School of Veterinary Nursing was founded, to improve the training and development of para-professional veterinary staff, both within the group and other local practices.
The current Partners of Lynwood Veterinary Group are Alan Hunter and Duncan Reavell based at Wimborne, Aly Richardson based at Bournemouth, and Siobhan Buswell at Wareham.
